HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Happy Halloween! This past weekend I went out dressed as a Flapper "Gatsby Girl", inspired by all the behind the scenes pics I've been lurking of the latest GG installment. I got the dress at a thrift shop; it WAS a floor length white gown until I chopped it into a fringed mini dress and used RIT to dye it green. I used some fabric scraps to fashion a head piece, threw on a fur stole, some fabulous diamonds, ankle strap heels, and I was transformed. I freaking love Halloween. PS- I also made my sister's Cleopatra costume from some gold stretch fabric (just a couple of simple stitches and strategically placed safety pins) and as you can see she looked BANANAS.

Vintage Lace

My sister and I were sitting atop a pile sale, and she pulled out this dress and notioned to me as if to say, "Yay? Nay?" The answer of course being an enthusiastic YAY, I then proceeded to have a mild freak-out. "Are you kidding me right now?! Do you SEE this dress?!" I asked her. "Look at this dress, vintage lace. they just don't make lace like this anymore...well not for $4 anyways." But I mean SERIOUSLY, I die. The colors are AMAZING, the two-toned purples have an iridescent sheen to them. Which is why I thought it would be perfectly paired with a sea-foamy green, sequined collar necklace. The lace is really very beautiful, I love the sheer detailing on the sleeves. Of course, it reminded me of everyone's fave collection from Dolce and Gabbana, so it was obvious that I had to bust out my crown of flowers again. My new booties gave this ensemble the perfect amount of hard juxtaposition that I needed.

Indian Summer

While the East Coast is gearing up for Sandy, SoCal has yet to move on from 85 degree temps; and now we've even added the Santa Ana winds to the mix. Indian Summer, indeed. Which would explain while I'm still running around town in short shorts and sunnies. I wore this festive little ensemble out for dinner in Belmont Shore with my main man. He told me to pick a place; any place at all. Sushi, seafood, Thai, Greek, Indian, Persian, and Italian restaurants line the street...and all I wanted was Lucille's BBQ. Sometimes you just need to grub out on some southern sweet tea, baby back ribs, and braised greens, ya feel me? My look is vintage head-to-toe...as usual. I totally stole this pen necklace from my girl Jazzy...with zero intentions of ever giving it back.

So Sari

I found this gorgeous, hand-beaded dress at my fave vintage store over the weekend and was immediately reminded of the Marchesa Spring show. I also seized the opportunity to half-assedly attempt a DOP (Dress Over Pants) by throwing it on over my leather leggings. I am still VERY into flats; they feel so effortless and non-chalant. I wore this over to my friend Jasmine' house for a night of sitting out by the fire, blasting Die Antwoord, and drinking Jameson, Blue Moon, Strawberry champagne, and 2-Buck-Chuck and then her Mom's fancy wine. A great night, indeed.

Suburbia

No secret that I LOVE me some vintage clothing. I love the thrill of the hunt, the smells, and the crazy people I meet. (You know THAT smell?) With the fashion industry moving at lightning speed these days, I feel like vintage clothing is the only thing that really allows me to have a creative, unique, and individual style. As far as I can see, dressing "on trend" poses absolutely no challenge to me. I can walk into any H&M, Zara, Forever 21, or TopShop and easily purchase a killer, of the moment, fashionable wardrobe, But buying that formulaic, hand picked, "trendy" (Read: Knockoff) stuff just doesn't do it for me. (Also, I am cheap.) And it definitely doesn't get the creative juices flowing; which is precisely what I have always loved about fashion and personal style. What does get me going is mixing, matching, and creating from the old, ugly, and forgotten. I take inspiration from everywhere,; runway, street fashion, art, nature, movies, music...and I store it ALL in my brain. It idly sits there until one day, something I see triggers that inspiration spot and I go into my creative zone. For instance, this kimono I found at Salvation Army in reference, of course, to the AMAZING Proenza Schouler show I saw a while back. Or these booties I scored at Wasteland with this stacked heel and architectural, conceptual shape that spoke to me. The top is also from Salvation Army, I got it like, 4 years ago when I was going through a sort of New Romantic, Vivienne Westwood obsession. They're just clothes, but they do have a story ;)

Voila

A little bit Francoise Hardy and Jane Birkin inspired in this easy weekend ensemble which was worn for running around town and general Saturday nonsense. Seeing flats on the 60's inspired runways of Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton further ignited my recent love affair with my flat soled shoes. I LOVE my heels, but I've been rocking loafers everyday as of late. Flats feel so fresh right now; effortless and chic. My aesthetic has been less fussy, much more relaxed. Which is a nice change of pace, if only for a bit ;)

Karma Chameleon

I am LOVING the oversized silhouette of the season. Which is why I was giddy when I found this colorfully gilded, aztec printed blazer at my local Salvation Army. It LITERALLY has every color of the rainbow, which can be...intimidating, sartorially speaking. The key, of course, was to keep everything else at a minimum. Leather leggings, white loafers, a simple chain link bracelet, and a belt on my head. JK...I don't usually wear a belt on my head. But as you can see, when I do, it. is. awesome. I really don't know what inspired me to wear this contraption on my head. It came to me in a vision while I was dressing and I just went balls to the walls. Experimentation is the name of the game, folks.

WWEW

I love Emma Stone. And as I was perusing the Spring 2013 collections, I was fantasizing asking myslef, WWEW? What would Emma wear? And so I dragged and dropped some options for her (in case she need MY help getting dressed) and have decided to share them with you! The Burberry and Tom Ford dress are for a more casual occasion, your run-of-the-mill movie premiere or TV appearance, say. But that McQueen and Rodarte dress...those are the big time. In my world, those delicious frocks are in the running for the Oscars. How amazing would she look in ANY of these dresses?! Dearest Emma, the following dresses, for your consideration:
