Louis Vuitton Wanna-Be

Brittany Fowler of Pardon My Fashion wears a vintage yellow dress louis vuitton knockoff and red beret and vintage white pumps

This amazing vintage dress I picked up for $5 is slightly reminiscent of the Louis Vuitton checkered “it” dress of the season, no? For now it’s as close as I can get to actually owning one of those amazingly brilliant dresses that descended down the escalator during the label’s Spring 2013 show, and has since been spotted in every editorial...ever. (Checkers are in. We get it.) Still…a girl can dream, right? But, as I was poring through the pages (ads) of Vogue last night, dreaming about the day when my closet would be filled to the brim with “real deal” Louis (instead of a thrifted wanna-be) and Prada and Marc and McQueen and Wang…I realized that I was actually annoying myself. Because you know what I find frustrating? The fact that advertising and the media seems to have tricked us into thinking we are all just “temporarily broke millionaires”. I mean, aren’t you? Don’t you one day plan on being, well…rich? Sure you do. I did. But I decided to get over myself and stop being a temporarily broke millionaire and just be a person instead; a person who is content with the present. Being happy and head-over- heels in loooove with my wanna-be Louis Vuitton dress is just my way of sticking it to the man, ya know? And also like, I don’t think I can hang with the 1% club…cuz they seem kiiiiiiinda douchey; albeit very well-dressed and LOADS of fun to party with. (My accusation of douche-baggery is based solely on my new Love-To-Hate-It blog: Rich Kids of Instagram.)

Vintage dress. Vintage pumps. Target hat.

Until next time,

Brittany

  1. I seriously want to hear you read a monologue. I can actually HEAR this post in my head.

    kiiiiiiiinnddofdouchey.

    So good.

I think this is SUCH an interesting point! SO funny, because right when you said "dreaming about the day...", I thought - hey! I do that too. Live as if tomorrow somewhere suddenly is going to give me a kajillion dollarss (but really, what comes after Trillion??)

Can't decide whether it's detrimental or motivatingly aspirational. Probably the former.

Need to start living like a "person".

    Props

    AND THIS DRESS IS AMAZING

    1. For me it's motivational only in that success is the best revenge, know what I mean? Also I am down for a good ol fashioned poetry slam reading of my blog. LOL.

  3. Don't get me wrong, I would loooove to sling a quilted Chanel bag over my shoulder every day instead of this cheap ass Forever 21 thing. BUT if Forever 21 made something that looked as good on me as this dress looks on you and only cost me $5, I would rock the shit out of it (much like you are here) and wouldn't think twice about who made it! This dress is gorgeous and the fact that it's vintage, just makes it even more interesting!

  4. RAD Vintage find. HIT it on the nail concerning “temporarily broke millionaires”. Add me to that list. Thankfully I've quashed the castles in the air incubus of pining for expensive material goods...just about. ;-)

Happiness necessarily can't be bought by a million dollars :) A vital lesson learned when visiting Asia. Though no harm in being ambitious and earning a buck, as long as you don't place all your happiness on temporary things...no?!

Cheers and thanks a bunch for visiting! :)

  8. Love that dress and with the beret it is pure perfection. Also 110% agree about Vogue being straight ad's at this point and your feelings towards "temporarily broke millionaires". I feel like vintage clothing can offer you something far more significant than the latest Marc Jacobs dress.

  9. girl you stick it to the man, i love that this dress is vintage because it makes it more unique than the same Louis dress in every editorial and celebrity twig out there......and i love the reflection here, lets all be content with our "current situation" hahah :)

  16. Girl, I love this dress. And as an avid thrifter myself, I admire that you found it for just $5. I love high fashion too, but I always like to trick myself into thinking that I am morally above spending over $1000 on a dress if I had the dough to do so. Of course, I'll probably never have the dough to test this hypothesis. But that's alright with me. Love your blog. You gals are fierce!
