Everyone is at #NYFW Except Me

JK. Kinda. So here’s what I would have worn to #NYFW. (Except my invite got lost in the mail...) I look just as good as these A.Wanging, P. Schoulering, Givenchy clad, Kenzo sportin, JBrand lovin’ street style queens...and my outfit cost less than their cab fare. BOOM BABY. I hope ya’ll don’t think we’re being haters with our fashion week commentary, it’s just something we’ve been talking about lately over shared bowls of vegan chili at Gypsy Den and glasses of red wine. Apparently we’re not alone; did you see the T Magazine article titled, “The Circus of Fashion” or that Buzzfeed article, “Finding the Next Bryan Boy”? People are talking about us fashion bloggers, folks...and it ain’t necessarily glowing reviews. Seems (to us) that too many bloggers are only good at one thing: swiping Daddy’s AmEx and mixing and matching designer labels. A fashion blog is only as good as the brands it hypes, right? So where the hell does that leave Britt and I? With a wardrobe made up almost exclusively of used, secondhand, and brand-less thrifted clothing...what could we possibly contribute to the blogosphere?! If a fashion blog doesn’t serve to fuel consumption, then what good is it? Does it have a place at all? We think so. Britt and I got into blogging (albeit, myself a few months after the fact) cuz we thought it would be nice to offer a point of view other than the whole “Daddy’s Little Rich Girl” spiel. We’re over it. It’s boring us. Can’t we use fashion to spark up conversations about real issues? Ya know like, stuff we’re actually interested in talking about? Let’s cut the small talk, fashion bloggers of the world. VIVA LA REVOLUTION!

Thrifted hat. Thrifted jacket. Foreign exchange crop top. Vintage jeans. F21 booties.

Until next time,

Chelsea

    Sort of
    ;)

Love this outfit. Really likin' how the shoes kind of make the hat heart pop even more.

Keep it up the non-designer duds. I approve. wholeheartedly. No wangin' here either (not that I'd argue should I receive a wangin' box of swagola in the mailio)

Our invites obviously got stolen by the same mail carrier.

    Next year, next year.

  5. Great choice of Outfit, though I would have loved the bottom wear to be at least navel-high.. I am not a big fan of the 90s ..

  6. I think the whole people who wear exclusively designer labels is getting exhausted is cause they're the blogs that get the most attention. It's a shame that a wider variety of styles don't represent the blogging community :( As for the outfit, that jacket is really cool! And the red booties complete the look :)

  8. I literally had this exact conversation with a couple of girls last year at ifbcon.... There was even like a rift at the conference between the "rich socialites" and the real girls who don't have daddy's am ex. I love you guys bc you have REAL style :) ps I thrifted this ballin windowpane print sweater yesterday that reminded me of you!

  9. A blog shouldn't be about hyping all the branded stuff you have in your closet, but sharing your love for fashion. Who cares if your clothes are not branded? Having style and taste is more important. Having expensive clothes but not having the ability or talent to wear them is nothing.

  12. Love it! Your jeans are perfect, love the shape of your jacket, and the cap is spot on... Got to have a cap if it's sunny! Keep bloggin' -- real style is not about how much shit you can buy. You can be rich and buy a ton of expensive things and look... Expensive, but that's it. That's why I will always love me some totally maverick street style fashion-- that's where the real bad@ssery happens :)

  16. Hahaha I love this post.
It's not what you wear, it's how you wear it. I think people need relatable fashion, not everyone has $7000 to plonk down for a Balmain ripped tee (and yes, this tee does exist).
    Love the look!

  17. Haha, I love the title of this post! Don't worry, my invitation was lost in the post too. ;) You look incredible though! I love how you have so many different elements going on - street style, grunge, polished jackets - but the whole look still appears incredibly cohesive. Well done on such an amazing outfit!

And I wouldn't be jealous about living in Australia (although it's beautiful here) - the extreme humidity means that my face is always melting off in summer! I really am yearning for a good yeti coat day. :)

Thank you for your sweet comment! I adore your blog and am following you now! <3

  22. That's a great outfit. And I think there's room for everyone as far as the blogging goes, although I'd have to agree that, unfortunately, limitless credit card is often the golden ticket to stardom. x

  23. Woman, preach. The only designer labels featured on my blog are the ones I've found secondhand. (Or maaaaaybe I got super lucky at nordstrom rack). Don't get me wrong, i'd wear that shit if I had the money, but I dont. So we do what we can, and I think it's pretty damn impressive. The thrifting, blogging, secondhanding, diy-ing, goddesses of the blogosphere are where it's at!!!
    GREAT post.

  30. "With a wardrobe made up almost exclusively of used, secondhand, and brand-less thrifted clothing...what could we possibly contribute to the blogosphere?!"
Plenty - you and your sis do a fab job styling looks from second-hand clothing. This is what fashion blogging used to be about - the anti-thesis of elitism and the democratisation of fashion for people without the bottomless clothing budget and prooving that style doesn't necessarily have to be about having loads of money. Keep fighting the good fight!
