Week of the Cat

I feel about as gangster as a a white girl from Orange County can feel; what with my cat eared beanie, “baggy” boyfriend jeans, and dusty rose high top sneakers. So, not only did my boyfriend and I adopt an insanely adorable kitten this week; according to some very credible sources, cats are having a major fashion moment right now. Therefore...this sweater is wayyyyyyy happening. With the rainy weather that’s been happening and all, this feline faced piece has proved itself to be quite versatile...AKA I’ve worn it like everyday this week.

Statement Slanket

In general, I would say that I adopt to a “go big or go home” philosophy; especially when it comes to fashion. Life’s too short to wear boring clothes...AmIRight? So I’ve had this BIG ass vintage scarf/shawl/slanket lying around the apartment, nonchalantly tossed over a chair for months now, waiting for inspiration to strike me on exactly HOW this killer piece should be styled. And then it hit me, in the form of THIS street style photo of Kate Moss rockin’ a MAJOR statement scarf from WhoWhatWear.com. It’s been a bone-chilling 67 dees-gree’s in the OC, so I was happy to have this fuzzy sucker around my neck/face for some extra warmth. This is a pretty casual look for me; in my book it’s essentially just jeans and a tee. (The jeans being velvet, polka-dot skinnies and the tee being a vintage silk button down.) Add the statement scarf and my brand-spankin’-new red booties and VOILA- recipe for a casual yet awesomely avant-garde ensemble.

PLAID ON PLAID ON RAD

I feel like a mix between someone from the cast of Clueless and a Celtic warrior woman in this ensemble. Think Brittany Murphy (R.I.P) meets Braveheart...the female edition. I know for sure that Cher, Dionne and Thai would approve of my plaid on plaid on cropped sweater. (A concept which was quite confusing to my family on Thanksgiving- it’s called print mixing, people!) As for the turtleneck, I've always steered clear, for two blaringly obvious reasons. (My tits.) But I'm kinda diggin’ them now. Flash a little skin and boom, this ain’t yo’ Momma’s turtleneck ;)

Vintage/thrifted everything. Charlotte Russe booties.

Effortless

It only felt right to sport my pilgrim shoes on Thanksgiving. I went for a mod-ish ensemble, again. Believe it or not this laser-cut suede mini is from F21, and this LUXE looking jacket was dug out from under my favorite pile sale...$5 ladies and gentlemen! My turkey day consisted of: sleeping in, home cooked brunch with the boyfriend, cruising down PCH, Mimosas, and a late night movie marathon. Basically, the best day ever. The next day I woke up WAY too early for you-know-what and hit the mall with Grandma, Mom, cousin, and sisters in tow. Our favorite, and only, family tradition. 'Murica.

Thrifted BCBG sweater. Vintage jacket. F21 laser cut miniskirt. Vintage pilgrim shoes.

Editorial Obsession

I am OBSESSED with the spot-on styling and fresh color combinations of the "American Beauty" editorial from Schon Magazine. This is simply divine. I think I will be injecting some sunny yellows and kelly greens into my wardrobe ASAP. Source: Schon.com

Maxi Realness

Not gonna lie, I was a little unsure of this dress when I found it at my #1 thrifting spot. But, Britt convinced me to take the plunge and…DAMN. In love. It’s sheer head to toe; uber sexy. With a black slip dress underneath, this dress instantly becomes wearable. The muted color palette and a hint of crochet detail give it a sense of innocence, so it steers clear of looking too much like something you’d find in the bedroom. And of course, my go-to black booties from H&M. Lately, I’ve been pairing them with everything. I can’t help it! They literally look good with anything. I also have decided that pigtail buns are my thing. They are so fun and, finally, a way to get my hair up!

Don't Try

One of my favorite writers of all time (After Robert Smith; I mean that guy just gets me, man.) is famous American poet, Charles Bukowski. And one thing that has always stuck with me is the message he left on his gravemarker, "Don't try." I mean gosh, that's got to be some of the best advice I've ever heard.

And while this advice can be applied to a myriad of life situations, doesn't it feel especially applicable to the fashion world? A world where everyone strives, yearns, and busts their ass to look "effortless" and "undone"; well this is the secret formula, folks. Don't try. NO- stop thinking, "Oh wow! This is great advice. I can't wait to go home and try out not trying for myself!" Just suspend your thoughts and let it floooooooooowwwwwwwww outta you, baby! That's how I get dressed. I don't start with an agenda, or a style, or even a specific inspiration in mind. I simply walk over to the closet and let it happen! Which is precisely how this little number came about. I wore this out to the Lookbook.nu/Wasteland Holiday party in Hollywood last week, and it was the perfect, "I didn't even try and I still look better than all you's" ensemble, don't ya think? Think about it. Trust me, you'll have that Kate Moss/Alexa Chung/Brittany Fowler thing down in NO time ;)

OH and PS- In case you failed to notice, my baby sistah, Chelsea, is the newest co-editor of Pardon My Fashion! It was only natural, since she is my thrifting, pile-saleing, and vintage obsessed Partner In Crime. Good style just runs in the family.

Until next time,

Hi, My Name is Chelsea

So here I am. I’ve entered the blog biz as co-editor of my big sister’s style diary; Pardon My Fashion. When I alluded to the fact that I wanted to start a big, bad blog of my very own, she offered to let me join in on the Pardon My Fashion fun. Considering she is my own personal style icon, (All together now, “Awwwwwwww!”) that decision was a no-brainer. Alright, let’s do this...starting with my skirt. I mean, come on, fabulous, right? RIGHT. And not just because it was $4 (no joke), but because it srsly looks like it costs about $500! The length is perfection, and for digging it out heaping pile of vintage yummi-ness, it is in mint condition. The texture of this skirt is ridiculous and paired with a cropped angora sweater; and a couple inches of skin, this outfit is the perfect balance of sexy with a side of class. OH and the boots...Charlotte Russe. Do not underestimate the power of the Russe. I wore this outfit to a banging soiree at my girl Jasmine’s house. The night was filled with Jasmine juice, good friends, and a 2AM spa sesh.

Until next time,

Chelsea
